Directly related precedents and resources

C.A.L.M is (Campaign Against Living Miserably) aiming at prevent it’s target audience harming themselves. By offering help, information and advice via a phone and web service, it transform the abstract support into different visual format.
This is a bit different than other precedents I have because the main target audience of this project is people who do have the problems. However it is very informative to see how they distribute and promote the supportive messages and advices.

The Secret Life of The Manic Depressive is a documentary done Stephen Fry, a comedian, actor, author and filmmaker. Stephen interviews other celebrities with bipolar, including Star Wars actress Carrie Fisher, Hollywood star Richard Dreyfus and British comedians Tony Slattery and Jo Brand.
This is a fantastic precedent for my project. It did something really relevant and touched a wild range of people. Although it’s in a documentary form, Stephen Fry still manage the film to a fun, interesting narrative to watch. It also shows me how a personal perspective can help getting the story more compelling and get the audience a clear insight point of view.

Depression Is Real is an organization trying to educate people who don’t believe depression is a real biological illness. The PSA took a pretty straightforward approach, having people (at least dress and behave like) medical professionals, biological professor and shrink talking to the camera telling the message.
This project is so close to what I want to do, it related to my project in every aspect. However the strategy it has is a bit different than what I have for now. It’s telling the message directly instead of putting it into a narrative context. The advantage of this strategy is that the audience won’t have any problem understanding the message since it’s explicit and 100% direct. The concern I have for this method is that it’s so straightforward and plain, wouldn’t it lose people’s attention or even not getting any because of that?
